Roy was at "sights / lights / sounds" + Emily Carr Media Pubnight!

We were at W2 this past Friday listening in on an artist talk by Barcelona-based artist-in-residence, Antoni Abad.

Abad talked about a recent project which involves marginalized people around the world (Geneva, Sao Paolo, Colombia, Mexico, Spain, the Sahara Desert and elsewhere). His megafone.net program uses technology to identify major cultural and community points that act as barriers to self-representation.

The Mobile*Native collaborative project connecting W2 and Megafone.net engages local First Nations youth in digital media expression as citizen ethnographers. In using the internet and new technology, the project aims to give voice and visibility to groups that previously had no or little truthful presence in the media.

We headed over to Emily Carr after this to check out this year's Media Pubnight Fundraiser. Sadly, it ended earlier than we thought..

It was a good thing there were still people around... we bumped into many familiar faces and had a good time catching up with old classmates and teachers!
